Happy 10th Birthday to me!
I wrote about this last week, but I am taking a victory lap today.
Ten years ago, I had open heart surgery. Honestly, the whole event has sort of slipped into the background. The scar in my chest has faded and I don’t think about it much any more.
Instead of thinking of today with memories of surgery and worry and recovery, I am thankful for every day since. I got another chance. I’ve had so many opportunities to create - writing books, magazine articles, short stories and radio features.

More importantly, I’ve gotten to see my daughters grow. Ashlin and Jamison both graduated from high school and college in those years and Kaitlin and Logan were married in a wonderful ceremony in what happens to be one of my favorite places on earth. I’m thrilled they all love it too.
And my beautiful wife Beverly is still beside me, too. The whole situation was tough on her — we’d been married less than four years at that point. But we’re still there for each other — laughing through it all.
Much love to all of my family, including the ones that aren’t related by blood, and friends and everyone who supported me 10 years ago and today.
I’m already planning some new adventures for this year.
My heart is full. And still beating just fine.
Eric
